What to Expect

During an acupuncture treatment people often fall asleep and wake up feeling refreshed. If there are scheduling restraints, please tell the practitioner so you can be up and out of our clinic in time for your other appointments, work schedule, or additional responsibilities.

It is important to keep conversations and voices low and that all electronic devices, such as cell phones, are turned off before entering the treatment room.

For an acupuncture treatment, please wear loose and comfortable clothing. Since most acupuncture points used are from the hand to just above the elbow and the foot to just above the knee, please wear loose clothing that can be pulled up above the elbows and knees. If you cannot wear loose fitting clothes to your appointment then bring a change of clothes with you or we can supply you a gown. Snack or eat at least 1-2 hours prior to your scheduled treatment. Acupuncture is not advised while hungry.

The first visit for acupuncture is a consultation combined with an acupuncture treatment. The consultation is used to determine a course of treatment, to discuss possible adjunct therapies, as well as to recommend dietary/lifestyle changes and exercises or stretches that can improve the outcome of the acupuncture or herbal therapies.

Sorry, but we do not have the space or resources to attend to children while you receive treatment. Please arrange for childcare outside the clinic.

Length of the treatment:

Acupuncture treatments last about 1 hour. Please allow at least an additional 30 minutes for the consultation if this is your first visit.

Course of Treatments:

Acupuncture works best within a series of treatments closer together not weeks or months apart. On your first visit the practitioner will recommend a course of treatments best suited for your complaints. This may range from 2-3 treatments a week for 1-3 weeks for acute conditions to 1-2 treatments a week for several months or more for chronic, longer-term conditions. Chronic conditions sometimes require a combination of acupuncture and herbs for the best results.

Many people decide after the initial course of treatments to continue treatments on a periodic maintenance schedule to maintain good health (see Acupuncture).

Office Policies:

Appointments must be canceled at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment. Missed appointments and appointments canceled within 24 hours will be assessed a $20 fee (See Office Policy Form). Fees will be waived for severe weather conditions. It is important to arrive 10 minutes early for all appointments.
